A Case Manager's Guide to Ethical Issues Associated with Use of Medicinal Cannabis And Hemp
Presented by: Nancy Skinner, RN, CCM, CMGT-BC, ACM_RN, CMCN
The increasing use of medicinal cannabis (MC) in the past decade raises several ethical considerations for the case manager. Regulatory issues stem from a gap not only in understanding varying state and federal regulations but also in maintaining a competent knowledge of adjunctive cannabis pharmacotherapy when a patient utilizes that therapy.
This program will offer a detailed view of the endocannabinoid system, the known pharmacodynamics of various cannabinoids, current medical and psychological implications related to use of MC and current regulatory issues associated with the utilization of medicinal cannabis and hemp. The program will also address a case manager's ethical concerns regarding patient utilization of MC concurrently with prescribed medication regimens. The program will also include a further discussion of ethical issues with a focus on today's environment including changes in both health policy and consumer knowledge that influence the decisions of both clinicians and patients that ultimately impact the trajectory of care.
