Dear Members,

My sincere apology for such a late welcome letter.

GGRK CMSA has been working hard on updating our Website.  Moving forward we will now have all current news and future news posted on our Website.

CMSA kicked off this year with a presentation on Cannabis in the medical field.  Next up we will be in Kalamazoo on March 19th presenting on Human Trafficking.  In May, we will be back in Grand Rapids presenting on Ethics.

Our Board is dedicated to bring great educational experiences to you, our members. If there is a topic that you would like to see presented, we are always available and welcome your suggestions.

The entire Board continues to thank our Exhibitors for their support at each Event.

We look forward to an exciting year!

Kind regards,

Julie Bise RN CBIS CAPS

Education Update/Resources:  Human Trafficking

This month our guest speakers: Ben Kaiser of Arbor Circle and Clay Fey of Kalamazoo County Jail, will be covering the topic of Human Trafficking.  Please join us on 3/19/2019, by registering HERE.  If you are unable to attend, but want to learn more about Human Trafficking, please see below for information related to current State actions and resources.

Human trafficking is a modern-day form of slavery and is a large and growing criminal industry worldwide.  The Michigan Attorney General is leading the fight against this horrific crime by prosecuting the state's first-ever criminal cases under state law banning human trafficking in Michigan.  Detailed information covering the Attorney General position, supporting documents, and work can be found at https://www.michigan.gov/ag/0,4534,7-359-82917_81399---,00.html.

Red Flags for First Responders and Health Care Providers covering Human Trafficking is included/attached, and also available on the Michigan link provided above.

Please note, as provided by the Attorney General:  “Human Trafficking situations can be dangerous to you if you attempt to intervene.  If you suspect Human Trafficking, call the National Human Trafficking Hotline at 1-888-3737-888 or call 911.”

The Case Management Society of America (CMSA) facilitates the growth and development of professional case managers across the full health care continuum, promoting high quality, ethical practice patients and their families. We strive for improved health outcomes by providing evidence-based resources, impacting health care policy and sustaining the CMSA-developed Standards of Practice for Case Management.

To facilitate your professional growth and development we strive to bring you evidence-based, interesting educational events.
Your input and ideas are important to us.  If you have an educational topic where there is a gap in knowledge or a need for current information we want to hear about it!  We will make every effort to secure a knowledgeable speaker who utilizes research, evidence, and up to date approaches.

On behalf of the National Case Management Society of America, we celebrate March as Professional Social Work Month!

CMSA is fortunate to have many social work case managers as part of our membership and larger community!

This year's Social Work Month theme is "Elevate Social Work!," which seeks to inform the public and legislators about the crucial role social workers have played for more than century in improving our society and empowering others, so they live to their fullest potential.

To our social work case managers: Today and every day we celebrate your skills, passion and dedication. Every part of our society, both inside of health care facilities and out, is impacted positively by your expertise and compassion.

Thank you! CMSA is honored to have you as our esteemed colleagues and members.

Jose Alejandro, PhD, RN-BC,
